Like Garden Spiders, Mantises in the Northeast seem to have a preference for bees and wasps. Once a bee finds itself in the grip of those claw-like spiked forelegs, it has no more chance.
One curious observation; Mantises don’t seem to be interested in pollen as food.
Little ants and other insects (below image) will do the cleanup...
